Meet the team

Dr James Erskine, CPsychol

Details

I have worked in mental health for over 20 years in various contexts from psychiatric hospitals to GP surgeries and Universities. I hold two doctorates, one in Research Psychology and one in Counselling Psychology.

I work with almost all types of psychological issues. I aim to offer clients an environment that facilitates their exploration of their particular issues, in an atmosphere without judgment. My services are confidential and you are most welcome to call for further information. In addition to working with serious psychological issues I also see many individuals who are just stuck in their lives and want to talk things through with an independent person. I work with individuals and couples and can offer sessions via Skype.

My main approach is a combination of existential counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
Most clients come for between 6 and 20 sessions, although I do also undertake longer term work if needed. I have worked for many years in clinical and academic settings with the NHS, universities and privately.

I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
I am also an active researcher with a specialised interest in self-control.
